Come to an Open House
If a student is interested in the ETA, they should come to a Doherty Open House. This way students and parents can decide if the ETA is right for them. They can meet the teachers, meet students, and see some of the work that students do on a daily basis. This way a student can decide if they want the accelerated program that the ETA offers.
Schedule a Shadow Day
After a student becomes interested in the Engineering and Technology Academy, they should come to see a typical school day. Prospective students can come and watch a regular Engineering class, Math class, and Biology class before they have to leave. They can talk to current students and ask their opinions on the program and the teachers.
Apply
If a student is serious about joining the Engineering and Technology Academy, they will need to apply. The Engineering and Technology Academy application should be filled out during the eighth grade year, and part of the application needs to be filled out by the guidance counselor. Admission is based upon attendance, grades, and conduct during their seventh and eighth grade years. Applications for the ETA program can be accessed through this link: ETA Application Make sure your application is submitted on time, check with your school guidance office of the due date, if you miss the due date you will not be anymore eligible for the ETA Program.
Please turn in your admission papers to your school or Doherty by early January. Students would receive notification of their acceptance status generally in the third quarter of the school year. Once accepted, ALL students must confirm whether or not they will join the ETA. AVID and AP classes are also available to all engineering students, if they are accepted into the programs/classes. If you are interested in any or all of these options, please talk to your school's guidance counselor, who should be able to provide additional help and information. You can also contact the ETA through the Doherty office (508-799-3270).
