Tenth Grade Teachers

Mr. Hackenson:

Mr. Hackenson attended UMass Amherst with a major in Civil Engineering. He was a licensed Civil Engineer for 6 years before he started teaching as the Process Engineering teacher at Doherty. He started 5 years ago and he continues to bring real-world experience and compassion to his classroom. He also runs the robotics club for Doherty.

Mr. Naço:

Mr. Naço is actually a graduate of the ETA program. After attending Holy Cross for a degree in Math and Physics, he also received two master’s degrees from WPI. He returned as a sophomore math teacher for the ETA, instructing ETA students in Algebra 2 and Geometry for 8 years. He also taught Calculus BC for seniors last year. His class is challenging, but he gives students the push they need to excel later on in life, or as he puts it, "putting the proper tools in your toolbox." 

Mr. O'Neil:

Mr. O'Neil attended Roger Williams University law school in Rhode Island, and after working in a civil firm, he decided that he could use his expertise to be a teacher. He was an adjunct college professor before he came to Doherty 13 years ago, and 12 years ago he became the ETA's sophomore US History I teacher. He teaches some of the ETA US History I classes. With his energetic teaching style and unwavering honesty, his students are able to recall and comprehend information. He prides himself on “not teaching a particular subject, but teaching the students.” He also teaches AP World History and he coaches basketball at Tantasqua High School.

Mr. Littizzio:

Mr. Littizzio is the other US History I teacher who will be teaching ETA students 2018-2019. His energetic and interactive method allows students to more easily learn and remember the vast material that comes with the subject. Mr. Littizzio is also a published children's author.

Ms. Lyon:

Ms. Lyon is the new ETA chemistry teacher, this is her first year of teaching ETA students. Ms. Lyon came to Doherty in 2017. She attended Fairleigh Dickenson University in New Jersey, then went to HCC for veterinary technology. She majored in Marine Biology then switched to pre-med and teaching, she also has a minor in chemistry. She has been teaching chemistry for 3 years,but has also taught Biology for 2 years, Physics for 3 years, Algebra for one year and science technology for one year. The biggest advice that she gives her students all the time is, " Never give up. Sometimes things are hard and you may want to throw the towel, but try not to. And if you do? Try again, there's always another chance."Her very robust and interactive approach of teaching allows students to visualize and comprehend the concepts of chemistry.

Dr. Mulcahy:

Dr. Mulcahy is a Doherty graduate as well. She also has a plethora of degrees; a bachelor’s from Commonwealth College, a master’s degree in Public Policy from UMass Amherst, a master’s in Education from Clark University, and a doctorate in Urban Education Politics from UMass Amherst. Dr. Mulcahy started to teach in the ETA 13 years ago, after being an NHS Advisor at the Statehouse. She is the sophomore English Language teacher, while being a professor at UMass Amherst. She encourages the students to read and write creatively and critically, by assigning frequent literary projects.
